NORMA Cyber expands to the Nordic countries

NORMA Cyber expands to the Nordics and changes the organisation’s name from Norwegian Maritime Resilience Centre to Nordic Maritime Resilience Centre

In 2021 NORMA Cyber was launched as an initiative by the Norwegian shipping community. The Norwegian War Risk Association (DNK) and The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) joined forces and established a cyber security centre focusing on the maritime industry, and the Norwegian specifically.

The centre was, and still is unique of its kind in the world. NORMA Cyber operates as a non-profit membership-based organisation and has since 2021 grown to 118 members. The membership is available for all types of maritime organisations such as shipping companies, ports, terminals, classification societies, aqua culture and maritime vendors.

From 2024 NORMA Cyber officially expands to the Nordic countries. Nordic maritime companies are now welcome to join a community that will continue to improve and develop services for member organisations. This is the result of a process that includes a trial period for Swedish and Finnish shipowners, and discussions among our current members in our Member Council. The NORMA Cyber Member Council is part of the organisation’s governance structure, and the Chair of the council is represented in the Board of Directors.

-          The expansion will hopefully contribute to further develop information sharing and centralised functions within incident and crisis response, in the maritime sector in the Nordics. We believe this to be crucial factors to succeed in building a cyber resilient industry. An expansion to the Nordics is a natural move forward for an organisation supporting an international industry with a complex and ever-changing threat landscape says Capt. Filip Svensson, Chair of NORMA Cyber Member Council and Senior Safety, Quality & Security Manager at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

-          All parties truly believe that this expansion will benefit both existing and future members of the centre. NORMA Cyber is confident that the maritime sector in the Nordics benefits from having a proactive role in shaping a collective cyber defence, says Lars Benjamin Vold, Managing Director of NORMA Cyber.

NORMA Cyber will from now also offer an affiliate membership to international companies. The affiliate members will take part in information sharing and receive threat intelligence reports.

-          We are proud of what the organisation has been able to achieve so far. We want to extend a special thanks to our owners DNK and NSA for their partnership and initiative, and of course to our members who have made these developments possible. We are very much looking forward to this next chapter and to welcoming all new members on board, Norwegian as well as Swedish, Danish, Finnish, and Icelandic, says Lars Benjamin Vold, Managing Director of NORMA Cyber.

Together Stronger!
